GARRA RUFA – WHY I HAVE STOPPED OFFERING THIS AND MY EXPERIENCE
I absolutely love this treatment I find it both relaxing and enjoyable; I have however decided to stop offering this treatment for financial and environmental reasons.
The system itself has been nothing trouble since day 1. When the company installed it they left straight after and the system leaked most of the 70 litres of water over my wooden floor. Then they came back and sorted that. Then the pump didn’t work correctly and they came out again, reluctantly trying to blame us but the system was only a week old!! When they had a look the filter had been installed incorrectly.
3 pumps later and 2 filter systems later, system only 1 month old!!!! Had enough. The company will not refund the money and insist we are not doing the procedures properly. We have done all that they have asked us to do. Meanwhile the poor fish have mostly all died.
We followed the given guidelines but after buying in total 60 fish we have less than 10 left and these fish are expensive especially when you add on the carriage and live bacteria, food, safe water, spring water and testing kits!!!
This is cruel to the fish as the fish are transported in plastic bags and polystyrene boxes. The fish are extremely distressed when they arrive, if they have all survived the travel!!! It is also not their natural environment and they are able to jump out of the tank. It is very distressing when you see this happen. We were told to cover the tank with a net curtain.
For what I have paid out so far I could have had a very expensive exotic holiday. The stress of the fish dying and the lack of care and interest by the supplying company of our system had left me to make the decision that this is not for me.
If you are considering buying a system, do your research, it is very hard work to look after the system and the fish correctly and look at the animal cruelty part. Don’t buy a system off the company that I did and if you want to know who they are I will inform you if you ask me personally. I had better not name them in case of any legal reasons.
For people considering trying the treatment do not wear nail varnish, have any tanning or moisturising lotions on. Do not go if you have any foot infections, athlete’s foot, verrucas, and fungal nail infection, open or bleeding wounds. Do consider the care of the fish. Have a pedicure and reflexology instead !!!
